It’s almost Thanksgiving time, which means its not a good time to be a turkey! Help hide the Turkeys or go on a turkey hunt! Make the Turkey Hunt educational with lots of options below. Ages 2+
Materials:
Turkey Templates- 3 different sizes
crayons or markers or paint
black Sharpie or dry dry erase marker (if writing on laminate)
Decide on which type of hunt you are going to play & what size turkeys you want to use. Some hunt games you can play multiple times if you laminate the turkeys. Once laminated, write on them with a dry erase marker. Erase once done and write again new words or numbers.
There is multiple ways to play this game for all different ages- they all have the same basic concept- find the turkeys! Get older siblings to help play too!
Color Hunt: Have your child/children color the turkeys- one color each, cut out. Adult or another child hides the turkeys. Then name a color and have your child find that color, repeat with next color. Or have your child name the color on the turkey as they find them. Or name the colors of each turkey, once all turkeys are found.
Number Hunt: With a black marker (adult) write a number on each turkey belly. Have your child/children then color each turkeys, cut out. Hide the turkeys, child finds them all. Then have your child put the turkeys in order. Examples: 1-10, count by 10’s, count by 5’s.
Letter Hunt: With a black marker, adult writes one letter on each turkey belly. Have child/children color the turkeys, cut out. Adult or other child hides the turkeys. Then name a letter and have your child find that letter, repeat with next letter. Or have your child name the letter on the turkey as they find them or name the letters each once all turkeys are found.
Sight Words Hunt: With a black marker, adult writes one sight word on each turkey belly. Have child/children color the turkeys, cut out. Adult hides the turkeys. Then name a word and have your child find that word, repeat with next word. Or have your child name the word on the turkey as they find them or name the word each once all turkeys are found.
Vocabulary Words Hunt: Great way to review the words on your child/children’s spelling list for the week! Have your child practice writing each vocab word on a turkey with a black marker. Then color the turkeys, cut out. An adult or other sibling/friend hides the turkeys. Child has to say word and spell out once they find a turkey.
Camouflage Hunt:What is camouflage? Why is it important for a turkey to be camouflage? Help the turkeys from being found by coloring them to blend in with their background or covering them up with something. Plan ahead where you will hide them and if coloring. Example: if hiding on the couch, color the turkey the color of the couch. Color, cut, hide, and play then!
Simple Turkey Hunt: Have child/children color in the turkeys, cut out. Then an adult or sibling/friend hide turkeys in designated area. Find the turkeys. Make more fun? Use a timer! Play several times and try to get the best time.
Outside Turkey Hunt: Have a child/children color in the turkeys, cut out. Laminate the turkeys (won’t get ruined by outside elements then). Adult or sibling/friend then hides outside in designated area. Child/children then go find all of the turkeys.
Friend Surprise Turkey Hunt: Have a child/children color in the turkeys, cut out. Laminate the turkeys (won’t get ruined by outside elements then). Get permission to hide turkeys in your friends yard or hide in your own yard. Then give your friend the note above & let the hunt begin. You can play multiple times- take turns hiding.
Happy Turkey Hunting!
